The Council of Fulani Chiefs in Southwest Nigeria has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and the nation’s security agencies for the successful rescue of schoolchildren and their teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Council’s Media Office on behalf of the Chairman of the Council and Sarki Fulani of Lagos, Dr. Mohammed Abubakar Bambado II. The Council described the rescue operation as a major success and applauded the professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment displayed by security personnel, which led to the victims’ safe release without any loss of life despite the period they spent in captivity.
According to the Fulani Chiefs, the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security architecture and reflected the commitment of the Federal Government under President Tinubu and the Oyo State Government led by Governor Makinde to protecting the lives and welfare of citizens. It also praised the coordination among the security agencies that made the operation successful.
The Council called on Nigerians, particularly residents of the South-West, to continue promoting peace, unity, and mutual understanding while rejecting ethnic profiling, division, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities capable of threatening security and peaceful coexistence in the region.
Reaffirming its commitment to supporting government efforts, the Council pledged continued cooperation with security agencies in peace-building and community security initiatives. It also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor Makinde, the Service Chiefs, and the heads of security and intelligence agencies for responding to appeals by well-meaning Nigerians, including Fulani leaders, for the prompt rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers. The Council further prayed for lasting peace, harmony, and sustainable development across the country, expressing optimism that insecurity would soon be overcome.
