The Agbelebu Foundation has launched a free health insurance scheme for elderly citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), aimed at ensuring access to essential healthcare services without financial burden.
The Founder of the foundation, Mr Gbenga Abiola, said in a statement issued on Friday that the initiative fulfilled a long-standing commitment to supporting society’s most vulnerable members.
Abiola said the foundation had earlier rolled out the Family Adoption Project in 2025, which provided sustained welfare support to 500 disadvantaged households in Lagos State.
The former Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government explained that the initiative stemmed from a deep commitment to assisting struggling families across Nigeria.
“Our interventions are designed to provide long-term support in health, education, empowerment and financial stability, beginning with 500 families under Phase One,” he said.
Speaking on the health insurance scheme, Abiola said beneficiaries would have access to medical services at hospitals of their choice for the duration covered by the foundation.
“The programme, which took effect in January, removes financial barriers to quality healthcare and guarantees that access to medical care is a right, not a privilege,” he added.
Abiola, who is also the National Coordinator of the Tinubu Media Force, described the scheme as a deliberate effort to restore dignity to elderly citizens and persons with disabilities.
“This programme demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of the elderly and persons with disabilities. No one should be left behind,” he said.
He explained that beneficiaries were registered during the scheme’s unveiling in December through a transparent and inclusive selection process to ensure fairness and community trust.
Community stakeholders have commended the initiative, describing it as timely, impactful and reflective of the foundation’s consistent, people-centred interventions.
Abiola added that the scheme addressed immediate healthcare needs while reinforcing the foundation’s broader mission across social welfare, education and empowerment.
