Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has challenged opposition parties to showcase their achievements when they were in power instead of resorting to campaigns of calumny, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to seek re-election based on his administration’s projects.
Aliyu, in a statement by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, on October 10, 2026, issued the challenge on Friday at the Government House in Sokoto, shortly after observing the Jumu’at prayer.
He said the APC had numerous projects to present to voters as evidence of its performance, expressing confidence that the achievements would provide a basis for seeking another mandate in the forthcoming general elections.
The governor said his administration would maintain a decent campaign, avoiding personal attacks and abusive language.
“We will ensure decorum in our campaign language and refrain from insulting anyone,” he said.
Aliyu assured residents that his administration would continue to listen to their needs and aspirations and remain responsive to their concerns in pursuit of the state’s development.
He urged APC supporters to remain law-abiding and conduct their political activities with respect for human dignity and strict compliance with the law.
The governor also cautioned political actors against using freedom of expression as a pretext for violating the fundamental rights of others during campaigns.
He said his administration remained committed to protecting the rights and dignity of all residents, adding that safeguarding the state from threats to its stability was a collective responsibility.
“We owe it a duty to protect our dear state from anyone who seeks to destroy it,” he added.
Aliyu thanked the people of Sokoto State for their continued support and prayers, urging them to sustain the gesture.
