The Niger State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Mohammed Bagana has disclosed that the Ministry of Health will organise a large medical and surgical outreach to enable vulnerable communities and a large number of out-of-school children to access critical medical services.

By Anna Moses

He stated this during the handing over and taking over ceremony at the Niger State Ministry of Health, following his assumption of office as Commissioner for Health.

Bagana said the outreach will enable vulnerable communities and a large number of out-of-school children to access critical medical services, particularly in underserved areas of the state.

The Commissioner described his appointment as a profound responsibility to serve the health needs of all Nigerlites, pledging renewed commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the Governor’s support has strengthened his resolve to serve with integrity, dedication and accountability.

Bagana also commended his predecessors, Dr. Tukur Bello and Dr. Ibrahim Dangana, for laying a solid foundation through improvements in healthcare infrastructure, revitalisation of primary healthcare centres and improved maternal and child health services.

The Commissioner disclosed that the Ministry will pursue a reform agenda tagged THRIVE, aimed at revamping the health sector, strengthening institutions, prioritising primary healthcare and improving service delivery.

According to him, the agenda aligns with Governor Bago’s vision for universal health coverage, driven by increased health financing, recruitment of medical personnel and the construction of primary healthcare facilities across the state.

Bagana called on staff of the Ministry, development partners and stakeholders to support the new direction, assuring that the Ministry will remain focused on delivering equitable, efficient and quality healthcare to the people of Niger State.

Speaking with Journalist, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abdullahi Usman Iman, expressed satisfaction with the new appointment and pledged the Ministry’s support to ensure the Commissioner achieves his goals.
