UDUS elevates scholars to professorial and reader ranks

ASHENEWS reports that in a move that underscores its commitment to academic excellence, the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has promoted several distinguished scholars to the ranks of professor and reader across various disciplines. The promotions, which took effect on January 1, 2024, recognize outstanding contributions in teaching, research, and innovation.

Among those promoted are experts in Science-related fields, whose works have significantly impacted their fields. UDUS also recognised others in the humanities and social sciences for their scholarly achievements.

Advancing scientific research

In fields critical to sustainability, healthcare, and technological innovation, the university elevated seven academics to the rank of professor:

  1. Dr. Sarkin Baki, Aliyu (Chemical & Life Sciences) – Professor of Renewable Energy
  2. Dr. Muhammad, Ibrahim Magami (Chemical & Life Sciences) – Professor of Hydrobiology
  3. Dr. Achom Mohammed (Pharmaceutical Sciences) – Professor of Pharmaceutics
  4. Dr. Alhassan Muhammad Alhassan (Pharmaceutical Sciences) – Professor of Natural Product Chemistry
  5. Dr. Oyeniyi Yinka James (Pharmaceutical Sciences) – Professor of Pharmaceutics
  6. Dr. Saidu, Aminu (Physical and Computing Sciences) – Professor of Nuclear Radiation
  7. Dr. Mustafa, Aminu (Physical and Computing Sciences) – Professor of Applied Mathematics (Numerical)

These promotions reflect UDUS’ dedication to fostering advancements in areas such as renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, radiation studies, and hydrobiology, all of which have far-reaching implications for human health and environmental sustainability.

Equally noteworthy is the elevation of four scholars to reader status in related fields, recognizing their deep expertise and growing impact:

  1. Abubakar Bilyaminu (Pharmaceutical Sciences) – Reader in Pharmacology
  2. Dr. Audu, Ahmed (Physical and Computing Sciences) – Reader in Sampling Theory and Survey Method
  3. Dr. Muhammad, Aliyu Dogondaji (Physical and Computing Sciences) – Reader in Algebra
  4. Dr. Ibrahim, Muhammad (Physical and Computing Sciences) – Reader in Algebraic Combinatorics

Their research is essential in areas such as drug development, statistical modeling, and mathematical applications, which support innovation across multiple industries.

Celebrating excellence in humanities and social sciences

While much attention is given to scientific advancements, UDUS has also recognized scholars making significant contributions to the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Two academics have been promoted to professor in these fields:

  1. Dr. Sab’u Hassan (Arts) – Professor of Linguistics French
  2. Dr. Shehu Yahaya Tsagem (Education and Extension) – Professor of Guidance and Counselling

Meanwhile, six others have been named readers, reflecting their growing influence in historical, legal, and international studies:

  1. Dr. Nura Atiku Balarabe (Arabic and Islamic Studies) – Reader in Arabic Literature
  2. Dr. Labbo Abdullahi (Arts) – Reader in Social History
  3. Dr. Umar Aminu Alkammawa (Arts) – Reader in Social and Economic History
  4. Dr. Anas Muhammad Yaqub (Centre for Islamic Studies) – Reader in Islamic Law & Jurisprudence
  5. Dr. Danjuma Ahmed Isma’il (Social Sciences) – Reader in International Relations and Security Studies
  6. Dr. Murtala Dangulla (Social Sciences) – Reader in Biogeography

A commitment to knowledge and innovation

The UDUS promotions highlight the university’s role in nurturing academic talent, driving research, and shaping the next generation of scholars. From pioneering renewable energy solutions to enhancing global security studies, these scholars are making a profound impact within their fields and beyond.
