BUA Cement has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Sokoto State, significantly enhancing the quality of life in its host communities. Through strategic investments in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and community development, the company has established itself as a pivotal partner in the region’s progress.

Healthcare initiatives

Recognizing the importance of accessible healthcare, BUA Cement has made substantial contributions to medical facilities in Wamakko Local Government Area. In July 2023, the company donated drugs and medical supplies to 15 primary health clinics, expanding support from the initial eight clinics to include additional communities such as Gumbi, Arkilla Federal Low-Cost, Farfaru, Beni, Asare, and Kaura Kimba. This initiative ensures that residents have access to essential medications at no cost, thereby alleviating the burden on local healthcare systems.

Earlier, in April 2021, BUA Cement provided drugs and hospital consumables worth N10 million to seven primary health centers in the area, focusing on children and expectant mothers. This effort complemented the Sokoto State government’s initiatives to enhance healthcare delivery.

Last week, the BUA Cement distributed drugs and equipment to 16 hospital and clinics across the Wamakko local government.

Educational support

Education stands as a cornerstone of BUA Cement’s CSR efforts. The company has awarded scholarships to 158 indigent students across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial constraints. Additionally, in July 2023, BUA Cement distributed school uniforms to over 1,004 primary school pupils, ensuring that students attend classes with dignity and confidence.

In August 2022, the company further solidified its commitment to education by constructing a school worth N280 million in the Gidan Boka community. This facility provides a conducive learning environment, reflecting BUA Cement’s dedication to fostering educational development in its host communities.

Infrastructure development

BUA Cement has undertaken numerous infrastructure projects to improve living standards in Sokoto State. The company donated three 500KVA transformers to SARDA, Kalambaina, and the Specialist Hospital in Wamakko Local Government Area in March 2022, significantly enhancing electricity access for residents.

Uniforms donated to schools by BUA

To address water scarcity, BUA Cement commissioned solar-powered boreholes in Gidan Gamba and Giremshi, providing reliable sources of clean water and reducing the prevalence of water-borne diseases.

Community development

Understanding the importance of community cohesion and development, BUA Cement has supported 68 communities with cement donations for the maintenance of mosques, cemeteries, drainage systems, and other communal facilities. This initiative empowers communities to undertake essential repairs and improvements, fostering a sense of ownership and collaboration.

The company’s relocation and resettlement program in Gidan Boka, as part of its quarry expansion, included the construction of roads, provision of graveyards, potable water, and electricity. This comprehensive approach ensures that development projects are sustainable and beneficial to all stakeholders.

Layely on Tuesday, February 17, 2025, BUA inaugurated seven solar boreholes, distribution of uniforms to five primary schools as well as donation of cement to communities in Wamakko local government.

BUA Cement’s unwavering dedication to corporate social responsibility in Sokoto State exemplifies how private enterprises can positively impact their host communities. Through targeted interventions in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and community development, the company not only fulfills its corporate obligations but also contributes meaningfully to the socio-economic advancement of the region.
