ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago says that in line with his agricultural revolution agenda, over 500,000 hectares of land has been prepared and ready for cultivation across Niger South Senatorial District.

The Niger State Governor stated this while on an inspection visit to his personal farm located in the area on Sunday.

The governor who described stakeholder involvement and support as key in actualising the feat explained that the state government has cleared 32,000 hectares of land across other areas of the state.

Bago noted that his administration will continue its engagement with community members to further encourage them to support the initiative.

Speaking further, the Zonal Project Manager of Zone A, Niger Foods, Fodio Abubakar, said that the 500,000 hectares cleared for cultivation by Niger Foods covers all farmlands that have been allocated to them by the Communities in Zone A.

The project manager who explained that Maize, soybean and Sesame are the alternative crops being planted, noted that more discussions will be held with other Communities, to key into the Agricultural revolution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Bawa, said the Agricultural revolution is already taking shape, and the target of feeding the nation is achievable.

He acknowledged that the working relationship between the Ministry and Niger Foods has motivated more people to key into the Agricultural project of the Niger State government.

He added that Community members that indicated interest, have been mobilized from across the State through a program tagged the Community Agricultural Extension Volunteers (CAEV).
