The Lateefah Moyosore Durosinmi Foundation has awarded scholarship to 40 pupils and students of Primary and Secondary Schools respectively, while 33 women from the South-West received grants.

Prof. Fatimah AbdulKareem, the Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BOT), LMD Foundation, made this known at the foundation’s eighth Award Ceremony on Thursday in Ile-Ife.

AbdulKareem, represented by Dr Jade Mohammed, a Board of Trustees member, said in spite of security and economic challenges across the country, the foundation was still able to awards the scholarship and give empowerment to some women.

She said that additional awards were given to the previous beneficiaries as part of the foundation’s economic empowerment scheme.

AbdulKareem said that with the awards, 245 students and 164 women had been supported.

According to her, the foundation is funded by philanthropists and kind hearted Nigerians through donations and Zakaah.

“This has continued to sustain the programmes of the foundation,” she said.

Also, Chairman of the occasion, Bashir Awotorebo, a former Minister of Water and Mineral Resources, lauded the foundation for assisting the needy, not minding the nation’s economic downturn.

Awotorebo urged all and sundry to make use of any opportunity that comes their ways to help others.

He appealed to the foundation to continue with the programme for the benefits of mankind.

Commenting, Prof. Shareefah Labo-Popoola, the Guest Speaker spoke on: “Islamic Perspectives of Human Well-Being”, lauded the foundation’s efforts for impacting lives positively.

Labo-Popoola decried the attitude of some wealthy Nigerians who could not assist others, especially the needy, with their resources.

She said that many people were in need of supports physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.

“No wonder some, especially children were committing suicide whenever they needed encouragement and they could not get it.

“They also need to be empowered by their parents emotionally, especially when they failed.

“Let everyone stop blaming government, but rise up to their responsibilities to care for others, as government alone could not do it,” Labo-Popoola said.

She said that some Muslims doesn’t valued paying their Zakaat, because of worldly things that could not profit them, saying that payment of Zakaat gives hope for the hopeless.

Labo-Popoola urged parents to give both formal and informal education to their children.

In his remarks, Prof. Muheeb Durosinmi of LMDF Executive member, enjoined the beneficiaries to work hard, imbibe excellence and be prudent with the little given to them.

One of the beneficiaries from Ondo State, Afolabi Lukman, thanked the foundation for the good gesture, promising that they would not disappoint them.
