The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has formally affirmed former Deputy Governor, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general election following an endorsement by delegates drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state.
The affirmation, which took place during a stakeholders’ gathering attended by party leaders, delegates, elders, youths and women groups, was described as a demonstration of unity and consensus within the party as it prepares to challenge for power in 2027. Delegates unanimously endorsed Dan’iya after consultations among aspirants and key stakeholders of the party.
Speaking after the affirmation, Dan’iya expressed appreciation to the delegates and party faithful for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a call to greater service and commitment to the people of Sokoto State.
He pledged to work closely with party leaders and supporters across the state to promote unity, stability and development, while assuring that the ADC would present a people-centred agenda ahead of the election.
The former deputy governor also commended former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and other stakeholders for their support and leadership, noting that the overwhelming endorsement reflected a shared vision for good governance and inclusive leadership in the state.
Party officials said the affirmation by delegates from all the 23 local government areas underscored the broad acceptance of Dan’iya within the ADC and marked the beginning of efforts to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Dan’iya, who served as deputy governor under Tambuwal, emerged after a series of consultations involving several aspirants and stakeholders, with the party opting for a consensus arrangement aimed at strengthening its chances in the forthcoming election.
The ADC’s endorsement of Dan’iya comes amid growing political realignments in Sokoto State as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 polls.
