ASHENEWS reports that the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has promised to restore security in all the areas affected by insecurity if elected as president in the 2023.
Obi stated this when he met with party supporters during his presidential campaign in Minna on Thursday.
Speaking during the event held at the Minna Polo ground, Obi described security as a major indicator of a functional government in power.
According to him, his administration will ensure that citizens’ lives are protected wherever they may be.
“We will ensure that nobody will be a refugee in his country. There would be no IDP or IDP camps. Nobody will be killed in his country. We will employ all we can to ensure that this ends.
“We will fight insecurity. The criminals are not more formidable than the government. When we get in, we will ensure that they have no opportunity to operate. In this area, I can assure you that you will not find us wanting,” he said.
He noted that his government will also prioritize agriculture to promote food sufficiency and increased income.
This he said will be achieved through the adequate utilization of the vast arable land in Niger state.
“We will use Niger state as an example that Nigeria can feed itself. We assure you that all the facilities that are dead across the state would be brought back to life.”
Obi further urged his supporters not to be influenced by the actions of politicians who may want to buy their votes.
“Take their money but don’t vote for them. It’s not their money. They have been stealing it,” Obi said amid cheers.
Before his outing at the stadium, Obi attended a town hall meeting with women in the state where he committed to ensuring a progressive gender balance in government.
