The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB), has concluded a statewide reaccreditation and data validation exercise across primary healthcare centres in Kano State.
The Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Rahila Aliyu Muktar, disclosed this in a statement.
She said the 10-day exercise involved comprehensive assessments of healthcare facilities across several local government areas.
Muktar explained that the exercise aimed to strengthen healthcare service delivery, ensure compliance with standards, and enhance accountability, particularly under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
She noted that multidisciplinary teams evaluated key areas including infrastructure, availability of skilled personnel, essential drugs and equipment, service delivery capacity, data integrity, and referral systems.
The exercise also included on-the-spot mentorship for Primary Healthcare Centre in-charges to improve facility management, patient care, and data reporting practices.
However, Muktar noted that some facilities could not be accessed due to logistical challenges. She added that plans are underway to revisit and assess the affected facilities.
She identified access to healthcare in hard-to-reach communities as a major challenge, citing long distances that limit service utilisation. Referral systems, she said, are equally constrained by the distance between primary and secondary facilities.
Muktar stated that the data validation component significantly improved the reliability and accuracy of healthcare data in the state.
“The exercise has provided a stronger evidence base for planning, resource allocation, and targeted interventions across the healthcare system,” she said.
She described the successful completion of the exercise as a critical milestone in strengthening Kano State’s healthcare system.
The initiative, she added, aligns with the Kano State Government’s vision under the Kano First Agenda, particularly in expanding access to quality, affordable, and inclusive healthcare for residents.
Muktar reaffirmed the commitment of KSCHMA, NHIA, and SPHCMB to building a resilient, inclusive, and efficient healthcare system for all residents of Kano State.
