The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has commended the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, for introducing measures to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in Nigeria.
Bauchi State UNFPA Programme Officer and Reproductive Health Analyst, Deborah Tabara, made this remark at the closing of a five-day implementation design workshop for the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MaNMII) in Bauchi.
She assured that UNFPA remains committed to supporting such initiatives to promote family health and safe motherhood, which are among the agency’s primary focus areas.
“The Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MaNMII) aligns with UNFPA’s mandate of ensuring that all pregnancies are wanted, no woman dies while giving birth, every childbirth is safe, and all young people reach their full potential,” she stated.
Tabara reiterated UNFPA’s commitment to ensuring the program delivers the expected outcomes for women. She emphasized the agency’s readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian government at both federal and state levels.
“We have made significant progress and will work to secure the necessary funding to support the program’s implementation across different thematic areas. We are confident that we will see tangible results,” she added.
