ASHENEWS reports that the National Youth Service Corps, Kebbi State has provided free medical care for rural dwellers in the Zagga community in Bagudu local government area of Kebbi State.
The outreach, conducted under the NYSC’s 4th quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers is meant to give free medical care to rural people and people who cannot easily access medical care.
The program included free medical tests, consultation, distribution of free drugs, and referrals for those with serious health issues.
Inaugurated in 2015, the program targets the provision of free health care for rural dwellers who lack access to basic health facilities and services, leveraging on the Corps’ Medical personnel,
This also provides an avenue to positively affect Communities that may not have easy access to Medical facilities.
Speaking during the event, the NYSC state coordinator in Kebbi, Mrs. Okolo Agatha Banki said that the program was deliberately put together by the NYSC to reach out to rural dwellers in remote areas of various communities with Medical Services to enhance their health and well-being.
“This is a program designed and packaged by the NYSC and the idea behind it is to address the issue of lack of basic Health Care facilities and services in our rural settings.
“We have drugs to give these beneficiaries as the need arises especially the pregnant women and the Nursing Mothers. The cases we cannot handle here will be referred to tertiary health facilities by our Corps doctors,” she said.
Similarly, the Local Government Chairman of Bagudu Local Government Honourable Aliyu Sambo Zagga lauded the scheme for deploying the resources at its disposal to attend to the needs of its communities.
Also speaking, the District head of Zagga, Abubakar Mainasara Zagga lauded the program, stating that it was coming at a time when many people couldn’t afford the cost of accessing healthcare.
