A hospitality company, Mouna Apartment Ltd, on Wednesday cried out for help over the demolition of structures on its property in Idu Industrial District, Abuja.
The structures, including a warehouse and fence, were erected on disputed land with plot numbers 1426 and 633, Cadastral Zone C16, Idu.
Officials of the Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, demolished the structures on Wednesday.
Mr Rabiu Sherif, an administrative officer of the company, told reporters that the structures were demolished despite an interim injunction restraining the officials from demolishing or removing any material from the disputed land.
Sherif said the company acquired the plots from La’don Hotels Ltd in 2012, initially for parks and recreation. He explained that the company acquired the land legally and possesses relevant documents to prove ownership.
He said the company received a demolition notice on May 14, 2025, on the grounds that the properties had been reallocated to another company, prompting it to approach the court.
“As you can see, there are three adjoining plots that are affected. I would like to state clearly that from the outset, we are not occupying this place illegally; we have our documents.
“Also, the matter regarding this land is currently in court as we speak, and our lawyers will do the needful through legal means to seek justice.
“We have appealed for time to enable us to evacuate our valuables on the property, but as you can see, they are bringing down the fences and the adjoining property, including the structures opposite us,” he said.
When contacted, Mr Richard Chukwuemeka, Assistant Director in the Department of Development Control who led the demolition exercise, declined to comment on the issue.
“Sorry, I am not authorised to speak to journalists on this matter,” he said.
