The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has donated hospital beds and equipment to a Muslim community in Oyo State.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Lukman Ajibade, Alaafin noted that the equipment was donated to help save lives.
This was contained in a statement released by the monarch’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaye, on Friday.
He stressed the significance of affordable healthcare extends beyond individual well-being, as it encompasses the health of families, communities, and the entire.
Alaafin stated, “The health of individuals is tied closely to the health of their overall community. In turn, the health of the overall community is an outcome of the collective health of its individual residents.
“Affordable healthcare safeguards the economic stability of families. Medical expenses are manageable, families can plan for the future, provide for their loved ones, and pursue education and career opportunities without being burdened by crippling healthcare bills.”
Owoade stated that healthy individuals contribute to healthy communities, saying affordable healthcare helps prevent the spread of diseases, ensuring community well-being.
He added, “Healthy communities are more productive, which leads to overall economic growth and prosperity. Affordability encourages people to seek early medical intervention and preventive care. Regular check-ups and early diagnoses lead to more effective treatment and lower long-term healthcare costs.”
The paramount ruler reiterated his commitment to the people’s socio-economic well-being.
Responding on behalf of the community, an Islamic scholar, Daud Igi-Ogun, who thanked the monarch for the gesture, described him as a “visionary, proactive and pragmatic monarch with a heart of gold.”
The donation forms part of growing efforts by traditional rulers in Nigeria to support healthcare delivery within their communities.
In recent years, several monarchs and community leaders have complemented government initiatives by providing medical equipment, sponsoring health outreaches, and supporting hospitals to improve access to basic healthcare services, particularly for underserved populations.
