A Sokoto-based Islamic clergy, Nura Attajiri on Monday, admonished Muslim youths to embrace self-reliance measures for a brighter future generation.
Attajiri, who is the Guest Speaker at Ramadan break fast (Iftar) 1444 AH organised by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Sokoto state chapter, said over dependency of youth has continued to remain a challenge in the society.
The clergy therefore enjoined them not to rely on their educational qualifications only but engage in skills that would give them a future which will continue to sustain their well being and that of their immediate families.
“We have observed a lot of shortfall in depending on government jobs through our educational qualifications; government alone cannot provide jobs for all of us.
“Therefore, the best alternative is for us to drive ways of engaging in hand works that will support our lives and promote our society.
“Moreover, there is a huge gap in our self investment, as such we should utilise the opportunity to remain creative in order to cover our societal demands,” he said.
Attajiri appreciated the MSSN for the gesture and urged wealthy individuals to utilise the period of Ramadan in supporting the needy in order to get the abundant rewards prescribed for good deeds during the month.
In his remarks, Mustapha Rabah, the state MSSN Ameer, said the event is an annual engagement toward supporting the less privileged in the society.
“The Iftar is an annual event we embarked on for the last 15 years to come together, eat and drink as well as pray for ourselves, leaders, our state and Nigeria in general.
“This year we have no fewer than 150 brothers and sisters in attendance and we hope to extend more invitation to others in subsequent years to come.
“For our brothers and sisters who are privileged, we extend our appeal on them to utilise their wealth in helping the society, particularly the needy during this blessed month of Ramadan,” he said.
