The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru (FUAZ) in Kebbi State has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the institution’s governing council and management over the non-implementation of the Federal Government/ASUU agreement.
This was announced after a congress held at the FUAZ auditorium. ASUU members expressed concern that the agreements were not being implemented for them while other institutions were enjoying the same benefits.
In a press statement signed by the branch ASUU chairman, Comrade Danbauchi Ishaq Sanchi, the union listed its grievances, including the non-implementation of the 40% upward review of academic emoluments and the non-payment of various outstanding entitlements.
“The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the implementation of the agreement and issued the necessary circular directing compliance,” the statement said.
Danbauchi further stated that the Federal Government subsequently released funds to federal universities for the payment of five months’ accumulated Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) arrears.
He decried the fact that FUAZ ASUU discovered, with utter dismay, that members had been denied these benefits to which they are legitimately entitled, despite FUAZ being the only federal university established and made operational in Nigeria without any take-off grant.
“But despite these challenges, members of ASUU-FUAZ have continued to discharge their academic responsibilities with dedication, professionalism and patience in the hope that the situation would be resolved,” he said.
Having exhausted all reasonable expectations for an amicable resolution, the FUAZ-ASUU resolved at its congress to issue a 21-day ultimatum to both the management and the council, effective from 29 July 2026. Failure to meet the demands at the end of the 21 days would lead to a strike action.
“We therefore demand the immediate implementation of the FGN-ASUU 2025 Agreement in its entirety at the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, and the immediate payment of the five months’ accumulated CATA arrears and all other outstanding financial entitlements due to members.”
The FUAZ-ASUU congress that adopted these resolutions was attended by members of the ASUU national visiting team, including Comrade Lawal Argungu, Murtala Abdullahi from Kwara, Aliyu Ahmed, and the ASUU Sokoto Zone Coordinator, Comrade Professor Abubakar Sabo.
