The Vice Chancellor Nigerian Army University Biu, NAUB, Prof Kyari Mohammed on Wednesday, inaugurated the first set of Disaster Response and Management Course 1/21 at the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace (TBIWP).
A statement by the spokesperson of the institution, Hassan Ismaeel made available to ASHENEWS on Friday quoted the Vice Chancellor’s inaugural speech as stressing the importance of preparing for disaster in time of peace, saying that “Disaster Response and Management is topical and apt.”
According to Prof. Mohammed, the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace is in talks with government agencies, especially the Borno state government, which he observed is desirous of some programmes on stabilization and post conflict and peace building in areas liberated by our Armed Forces.

The VC assured that the Institute would be a centre of excellence in research and would attain that through advocacy, quality research and policy-relevant courses that will be introduced.
The Institute offers different courses in areas of specialty such as Counter Terrorism, Cyber Security, Counter Insurgency and Strategic Communication.
He also enjoined participants to step-down whatever they have learned further down the line as part of efforts towards building a strong pool of early responders during and after disasters.
The Director Training of TBIWP, Maj Gen AB Adamu noted that the course aims to equip participants with the requisite knowledge required to fight disaster.
According to him, “disaster is part of human activities which needs proper training on how to manage.”
The maiden course is for four weeks with 18 participants from ministries, paramilitary and MDAs.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director of TBIWP, Brig Gen A Dadan-Garba (Rtd) applauded the Vice Chancellor for his initiative of transforming the Centre to Institute with expanded mandate, functions and for his special interest in progress of the Institute.
