A wooden boat has overturned in the Shiroro River, in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, killing many people, including women and children.
The accident happened around 2:30 PM on Saturday. The boat was carrying passengers and goods to the Saturday market in Zumba, which is also in the Shiroro area.
The boat had started its journey from Guni, a riverside community in Munya Local Government Area. It capsized just a few minutes after setting off.
According to someone near the Zumba market, the boat hit a tree hidden under the water and broke into two pieces.
As of now, the exact number of people who died is not known. However, local divers and marine police have rushed to the scene. They are searching for survivors and trying to recover the bodies.
