Nigerian Film Directors, CJ ‘Fiery’ Obasi and Abba Makama, have announced the international debut of an anthology film ‘Juju Stories’ at the 74th Locarno Film Festival beginning from Aug. 4 to Aug. 14.
Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland, which was founded in 1949.
It is one of the longest-running film festivals, also known for being a platform for art house films.
The festival screens films in various competitive and non-competitive sections, including feature-length narrative and documentary, short, avant-garde, and retrospective programme.
According to the directors, ‘Juju Stories’,” a three-part anthology film exploring juju (magical) stories, rooted in Nigerian folklore and urban legend, is slated to premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.
Obasi, who happens to be a co-director of the movie, took to his Instagram handle @fierycj to confirm the news of the film international debut.
“Honoured to finally announce that our anthology film @jujustories_ , written and directed with my brothers from the @surreal16 collective, will World premiere in the Concorso Internazionale (Main competition) of the 74th @filmfestlocarno in August.
“Grateful to the entire team of collaborators, Producer @simplyoge Executive Producer @ifind_pictures Line Producer @the_falconx Cinematographer @femiawojide Editor @nedjamez Composer Philippe Razol and the entire ensemble cast,” he wrote.
The movie, which was shot by Femi Awojide, Surreal16 Collective’s production, would include three stories: “Suffer the Witch“, “Yam“, “Love Potion“ all written and directed by CJ ‘Fiery’ Obasi, Abba Makama, and Michael Omonua.
Also announcing the movie premiere, Makama, a co-director of the film wrote: “Honored to announce that our 3 part anthology feature film “Juju Stories” will have its world premiere at the renowned Lorcano film festivals.”
The movie “Juju Stories” was produced by Francis Nebot, Oge Obasi, and Adaugo Uzoma.
The movie featured Timini Egbuson, Belinda Agedah Yang, Adebukola Oladipupo, Paul Utomi, Elvis Poko, Nengi Adoki, Seun Kentebe among others.
