The Sokoto State Government, in collaboration with Plan International Nigeria, on Thursday adopted an onboarding and orientation manual for newly recruited teachers in the state to enhance classroom standards.
The adoption followed a stakeholders’ meeting convened to review and adapt the document in line with the outcomes of the Abuja Education Roundtable and the revised Teacher Training Guide.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ala, said the manual would strengthen the capacity of the state’s education system and improve teaching and learning outcomes in schools.
He explained that the document covers various aspects and techniques of modern teaching designed to boost classroom performance.
“This manual addresses all aspects of teaching and learning in schools.
“As you know, the state government recently recruited new teachers to fill existing gaps and ensure our children receive quality education.
“However, having the required number of teachers without proper training and equipment will not enable us to meet our education standards.
“Therefore, this document has been developed to improve teaching and learning across the state,” he added.
The commissioner noted that Gov. Ahmad Aliyu’s administration continues to prioritize education as part of its nine-point Smart Agenda.
He emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to securing a brighter future for children and advancing the state’s overall development.
Earlier, Plan International Nigeria’s Project Coordinator, Mr. Joseph Julius, described the manual review as a strategic effort to create a practical tool that supports effective learning in schools across Sokoto.
“As you know, education is central to Plan International’s programmes, with a focus on promoting quality learning outcomes.
“We are implementing this initiative in partnership with the government, and after the review, the manual will be used to support successful teaching and learning,” he stated.
Julius explained that the meeting aimed to strengthen the capacity of education stakeholders to implement a standardized and context-responsive onboarding process for newly recruited teachers in Sokoto.
