FG moves academic certificate verification online, ends physical visits

The Federal Government has automated the verification and authentication of academic certificates, allowing applicants to complete the process online without visiting the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the development on Tuesday, describing it as a major step towards making the country’s education services faster, more transparent and accessible.

Under the new arrangement, Nigerians and other applicants seeking evaluation and authentication of their academic credentials can submit their applications electronically through the ministry’s dedicated platform.

The reform is expected to eliminate some of the delays and bureaucratic hurdles associated with the previous process, particularly for Nigerians living abroad who had to deal with the challenges of accessing government offices in person.

Alausa said the initiative formed part of the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation efforts aimed at improving the delivery of public services.

He added that automating the process would also strengthen the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s academic credentials by providing a more efficient system for institutions, employers and other authorised bodies to verify qualifications.

The minister urged applicants to make use of the digital platform for their certificate evaluation and authentication instead of visiting the ministry physically.

The Federal Ministry of Education said the initiative was consistent with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the government’s efforts to deploy technology to improve efficiency across the education sector.

The latest development also forms part of broader efforts to digitise Nigeria’s education records and strengthen mechanisms for detecting and preventing the use of fraudulent academic credentials.

Applicants can access the ministry’s academic certificate verification and authentication service through its official online platform.
