Junesberry School has won the grand finale of the Suleja Spelling Bee competition organised by the Foundation for Human Capacity Development and Innovation in Niger State.
The school clinched the ₦500,000 star prize after a closely contested final that tested spelling accuracy, composure, and academic excellence.
Hassan Dallatu Model School finished second and received ₦300,000, while Global Vision School placed third with ₦200,000. Eng. Mukhtar LEA School came fourth and got ₦100,000.
Founder of the foundation, Rear Adm. Hamza Ibrahim, said the competition reflects the foundation’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting educational development in Nigeria.
“We want the children to know that we care and that society cares about their development,” he said.
He announced that the competition will now be held annually and urged schools to maintain academic discipline. He also acknowledged donations from the Chief of Army Staff.
The Special Guest of Honour, Yusuf Mohammed, advised pupils to remain focused and determined, noting that failure should motivate them to greater success through resilience.
He added that the pupils, who represent future doctors, engineers, pilots, and lawyers, should strive to give back to society.
Sabo Abdullah, Head of the Academic Section in Suleja, commended the organisers for sustaining the initiative. He expressed delight that government schools reached the finals and encouraged them to perform even better next year.
All participating pupils received school bags as Children’s Day gifts in recognition of their efforts.
In a related highlight, the founder presented laptops to two Suleja indigenes who graduated with first-class degrees as a reward for academic excellence.
