Pioneer Education Centre, Benin, Edo, has emerged the winner of the NNPC/SEPLAT Energy 2025 Parles Quiz finals, held in Asaba on Thursday. The quiz is part of SEPLAT Joint Venture’s (JV) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at equipping secondary schools with science laboratories and Information Communication Technology (ICT) centres to enhance learning and empower students.

Pioneer Education Centre took home the first prize of ₦10 million to equip its ICT centre. The second and third-place schools—Notre Dame College, Uzoro, Delta, and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Benin—received ₦5 million and ₦3 million, respectively. Ogini Model College, Ogharefe-Oghara, Delta, secured a consolation prize for finishing fourth.

Additionally, SEPLAT JV CSR awarded ₦1 million to Hollywood International School, Asaba, for topping the STEAM Multi-Functional Laboratory Schools Projects Exhibition out of 11 participating schools from Edo and Delta states. Pioneer Education Centre came second in the exhibition, earning ₦500,000, while Women Affairs Secondary School, Asaba, placed third with ₦250,000.

In his remarks, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development, Ms. Orode Udughan, praised the initiative for positively impacting students in Edo and Delta.

“Today, we celebrate not just a contest but the brilliance, promise, and potential of our young people—the true future of our states and our nation,” the governor said. “The PEARLS quiz—Promoting Exceptional and Respectable Leaders—is a shining example of corporate social responsibility aligned with our developmental vision.”

Oborevwori also commended the students for their courage, diligence, and academic brilliance, urging them to remain focused and committed. “Beyond the trophies and prizes, every participant is a winner. The knowledge, teamwork, and confidence gained are lasting assets for life,” he added.

Delta Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, represented by Acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu, lauded the SEPLAT JV for inspiring excellence, igniting curiosity, and empowering future leaders. She emphasized that initiatives like this strengthen education and lay the foundation for sustainable development in Edo and Delta.

Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu, represented by Mr. Abudukadiri Ikoghade, Director of School Support Services, also praised the competition, noting it fosters academic excellence and a positive learning environment. “SEPLAT should continue this laudable work, which benefits students, society, and our states,” Iyamu said.

Students from the participating schools expressed gratitude to NNPC/SEPLAT for the competition and pledged continued dedication to their studies.
