The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded the removal of the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School over alleged discrimination against female students wearing hijab during the ongoing final examinations.
MURIC also called for an independent investigation into the controversy, accusing the DG of denying the alleged incidents despite written directives reportedly issued by some Law School campuses.
The group’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, made the demands in a statement issued on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
The Nigerian Law School had denied discriminating against female students wearing hijab during the examinations.
But reacting to the denial, Akintola alleged that the DG gave verbal instructions that led to written directives from some campuses concerning the removal of hijab.
He said the alleged directives contradicted the Nigerian Law School’s Code of Conduct for Students, which, according to MURIC, recognises hijab as acceptable attire for female Muslim students under Part B, Rule 5.
MURIC accused the DG of anti-Muslim bias and alleged that the controversy subjected affected students to psychological pressure during their examinations.
“The current DG poses a threat to healthy interaction and freedom of religion. She cannot create a balanced playing field for Muslim and Christian students, particularly during critical examinations like call-to-bar final examination,” Akintola said.
The group further alleged that the controversy may have affected the performance of students who were subjected to what it described as a “harrowing experience”.
MURIC urged the Council of Legal Education to constitute a probe panel to investigate the matter and called on the DG to recuse herself from the process to ensure a “free, fair and transparent” investigation.
It also demanded her resignation or removal, accusing her of damaging the reputation of the Nigerian Law School by denying the alleged incidents and allegedly displaying an anti-Muslim mindset.
The Nigerian Law School’s denial and MURIC’s allegations could not be independently verified from the statement.
