The Federal Government has engaged the banking sector in Abuja to deepen understanding of the Revenue Optimisation Assurance Platform (RevOp), a digital system aimed at boosting revenue, reducing leakages, and improving public sector accountability.
Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, made this known on Friday during a RevOp sensitisation workshop organised by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF).
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mr. Mohammed Danjuma, Oyedele explained that RevOp is a centralised digital revenue collection and monitoring system designed to modernise Nigeria’s public finance management.
He said the platform offers real-time, automated processes for all federal agencies to raise, collect, and report revenue, replacing decades of fragmented manual systems.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving revenue generation, transparency, accountability, and efficiency through technology.
“RevOp is a vital tool in our efforts to enhance revenue administration, cut leakages, and strengthen public sector accountability,” he stated.
He acknowledged progress since implementing the platform but noted challenges remain, particularly limited awareness among some banking channels and frontline officers unfamiliar with RevOp’s purpose and procedures.
“These operational challenges impact customer experience and the effectiveness of the initiative, which is why we are here today,” he added.
Oyedele emphasised that RevOp’s success depends on strong collaboration with stakeholders, especially banks, which are key revenue collection channels.
He urged banking institutions to go beyond processing payments and ensure efficient, user-friendly revenue collection.
“The purpose of this session is to deepen understanding, clarify processes, address concerns, and strengthen communication between the project team and financial institutions. We hope this knowledge will reach your staff at branch levels, tellers, and customer service personnel,” he said.
The minister assured ongoing efforts to address challenges and improve the platform.
In his remarks, the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, said RevOp has been adopted as a strategic tool for revenue collection, reconciliation, monitoring, and reporting.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Felix Ogundairo, Ogunjimi explained the platform enhances transparency, reduces leakages, and supports data-driven decision-making with real-time analytics.
“This engagement allows us to discuss challenges, align expectations, and strengthen partnerships for successful implementation,” he noted.
Additionally, Mr. Adebayo Adewale, Director of Revenue and Investment at OAGF, stated that over 70% of federal entities have adopted RevOp.
He explained that RevOp is managed by the OAGF to streamline revenue collection, which was previously siloed, using licensed payment providers and banks nationwide.
“Today’s sensitisation aims to inform you that RevOp generates bills and collects revenue through existing banking and payment channels. Prompt collection is expected,” Adewale said.
RevOp Product Manager Mr. Idris Dosunmu highlighted that the platform unifies billing, payment, and settlement, with secure connections ensuring transparency from bill creation to treasury receipt, guaranteeing all due revenue is collected.
