A Nigerien military helicopter on Monday, crashed at Niamey Airport, killing three, including an expatriate instructor. The Niger Republic’s Defence Ministry disclosed this to newsmen in a statement on Monday. According to the Ministry, the helicopter was returning from a routine training flight when it crashed on a military runway. The wreckage burst into flames, blocking rescuers from reaching the crew. Authorities have said that the death toll from a gas tanker that exploded in Johannesburg initially estimated to be eight on Saturday, has risen to 15. The vehicle caught fire while under a low bridge on Christmas Eve and tore the roof off the emergency department at the Tambo Memorial hospital.
