Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has ordered the indefinite closure of Shasha market, near Moniya -Ibadan in Akinyele local government area, following traders’ clash. Mr Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, announced this in a statement on Saturday. The governor equally imposed a good 6p.m. to 7a.m. curfew on the community, to forestall further breakdown of law and order. The Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, says it has boycotted coverage of government activities following intimidation and harrasment of its members by security agents. This is contained in a statement issued at the end of its congress meeting held on Saturday and signed by the chairman and secretary of the chapel, Habibu Harisu and Mr Ankeli Emmanuel. The White House on Friday suspended a press aide who reportedly threatened to “destroy” a reporter working on a story about his relationship with another journalist, ABC News has reported. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has yet to resume job recruitment it suspended to comply with the requirements of Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 pandemic. The ongoing strike by members of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Bayelsa chapter, has effectively shut primary healthcare centres across the state. The strike has hampered access to basic healthcare services like ante-natal for pregnant women and child immunisation at health centres across the eight local government areas of Bayelsa. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu on Friday, inaugurated the 272 special constables recruited for community policing programme in the state. Ugwuanyi said that the officers were recruited from the Neighborhood Watch Association and Forest Guards in the 17 local government areas of the state. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 24 deaths in 24 hours and 1,005 new cases of the coronavirus. The total number of COVID-19 infections in Africa’s most populous nation has subsequently, risen to 144,521, according to the official website of the NCDC on Friday. One person was confirmed dead on Friday as a result of a misunderstanding between a cobbler and an cart pusher in Shasa market area in Ibadan, Oyo state. The clash erupted on Thursday but reached its peak on Friday when the cobbler was confirmed dead as a result of injury sustained during the clash.
