The World Health Organisation (WHO) and UN World Food Programme (WFP) have launched a new project to improve emergency response to health crises. The Imo state police command has confirmed the death of a senior Pastor in Owerri, Thompson Onyekwuru, while trying to separate a fight between couple in the state. The police confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Mike Abattam. Abattam said that the incident occurred at Umukoto Nekede in Owerri adding that Onyekwuru was a pastor with the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the state. Deteriorating economic conditions since 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic have fuelled an increase in domestic violence and forced marriage in Sudan, a UN-backed study has revealed. A cholera outbreak in Jigawa has killed at least 30 people with more than 2,000 hospitalised in the past two months in the state. Dr Salisu Mu’azu, Permanent Secretary, Jigawa State Ministry of Heath, who confirmed the outbreak, said that most of the infected cases were children recorded in nine local government areas of the state. Mu’azu listed Hadejia; Dutse, Kirikasamma, Birnin Kudu and Ringim as some of the areas worst hit by the outbreak. Kwara state government has acquired two additional new dialysis machines for the state’s premier General Hospital, thus bringing the equipment to four in the hospital. A statement by Mr Sa’ad Aluko, the Director General of Hospital Board Management on Tuesday in Ilorin, said that this would enable the facility to offer more efficient services and attend to patients with special needs. Security operatives have arrested the Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho in Cotonou, Benin Republic, DailyTracker has reported. Reports say he was arrested by security forces in Benin Republic at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night. Igboho’s arrest is coming three weeks after the Department of State Services, DSS, declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms. He has since denied the allegation.
