The National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, is to train 75,000 agricultural extension agents on best agricultural practices to enhance food production in Nigeria. Prof. Emmanuel Ikani, Executive Director, NAERLS told newsmen on Wednesday in Zaria that already, 12,600 agricultural extension agents had been trained by the institute under its e-extension training programme. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq has said that no fewer than 3,000 women in Kogi have benefited from the Federal Government’s Special Grant for Rural Women Project. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has solicited the National Assembly’s support to convert existing voting points in the country to polling units. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the appeal on Tuesday during a presentation on the state of voter access to Pulling Units (PUs) in Nigeria, to the National Assembly Joint Committee on INEC and Electoral Matters, in Abuja. The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has declared as safe and efficacious, AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, as Nigeria takes delivery of 3.92 doses of the vaccine. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the PTF Chairman, Mr Boss Mustapha, made the declaration in Abuja. Zambia’s cabinet has approved the publication and introduction of a bill in parliament for the legalisation of the cultivation of cannabis, a government spokesperson said on Tuesday. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan announced on Tuesday that a Japanese woman in her 60s died several days after being administered a dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The woman, said to have no underlying conditions or allergies received the shot on Feb.26. She died on March 1, from what is presumed to be subarachnoid hemorrhage – a type of stroke affecting the space between the brain and the surrounding membrane. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has again successfully transmitted an enhanced peak generation of 5,801.60Mega Watts (MW) as at 9:30 p.m. March 1. TCN’s General Manager Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah said this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday. Mbah said the latest peak generation was transmitted at a frequency of 50.09Hz. She said the value of the transmission was higher than 5,615.40MW recorded on Feb. 28, by 186.20MW.
