Nigerian government has begun aerial spray of pesticides to control quelea bird invasion in North-East region. Usman Ciromari, Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) in Yobe said in Damaturu, that the exercise was designed to destroy quelea bird nesting colonies in Yobe and other parts of the region. Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni said on Monday in Damaturu that floods, resulting from many days of torrential rains, have submerged nine communities and cut off Gulani local government area from other parts of the state.
