ECOWAS military chiefs meet in Ghana, declare readiness for action

ASHENEWS reports that the military chiefs of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have eventually converged on Ghana in preparation for any instruction to invade Niger Republic.

Except Cape Verde, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea, all other member nations were in attendance.

ASHENEWS further reports that it has become obvious that diplomacy between the bloc and the military junta is not visible, with the later having formed government, and threatened to try ousted President Mohamed Bazoum for serious treason.

Bazoum has since been held by the junta, in spite of pleas by the West, especially the U.S for his release.

The ECOWAS military chiefs, after the meeting, reportedly said that they are battle ready for Niger at any moment’s notice.

According to the Nigerian Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, was quoted as saying that the meeting was to proactively chart a course that results in peace and promote stability.

“Democracy is what we stand for and it’s what we encourage. The focus of our gathering is not simply to react to events, but to proactively chart a course that results in peace and promote stability,” Gen. Musa said.

The Nigerien government, which has maintained that it will respond aggressively and ferociously to any military intervention by any means possible, is yet to officially react to the meeting.
