……Foundation trains 150 students on CPR skills in Kwara

The Founder of Monitor Healthcare Limited, Dr Femi Ogunremi has trained 150 selected pupils in Kwara secondary schools on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to save more lives in the country.

Ogunremi said on Tuesday in Ilorin that there was the need to change the narrative from people dying to surviving after a slump, through basic life skills.

He explained that it was imperative to start equipping children with the skills in order to change the narrative from people dying to surviving when they collapse.

He said that the training was the first of its kind and the aim was to reach out to as many schools across the country to engage the stakeholders to key into training children on the skills.

“We have been training the adults for sometime now, and so, we feel that it will be good to bring it from a downward-upward approach to also get the children to understand it.

“The process of CPR when someone collapse is to call out the person’s name, beat their shoulder and open their airways to check whether they are breathing; if they are not, it means they are in collapse stage now.

“You cannot resuscitate someone that collapse alone, make sure you call for help and ensure that they are coming and initiate 30 chest compression and two rescue breathing.

”So within one minute make sure you have done 100-120 chest compression.

“You carry on like that untill they bring the equipment to jump start the heart to resuscitate the person,” he said.

Ogunremi added that he collaborated with Real Foundation to train 150 students of secondary schools in kwara.

The Kwara First Lady, Amb. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, commended the organisers on their decision to undertake the training.

Olufolake, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, said the training reflects deep sense of responsibility and desires to provide the best possible care to those in need.

One of the participants, Ajayi Oluwaseyifunmi, a student of Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, said that the training has taught them about CPR which is a life saving techniques for someone who collapsed and need to be resuscitated.

“We understand that the technique is not well practiced in Nigeria and they want us to learn and spread the message to the world, so that more people will be safe,” he said.

He advised Nigerians to learn the process of CPR to safe lives of their loved ones.

Another participant, Segun Balogun, a student of Chapel Secondary School, said “with the knowledge of the CPR I acquired in the training, I have confidence now that I can attend to any person in that situation.

”I have been taught in detail, the right test to adopt in order to bring such person back to life,” he said.
