Armed bandits have again struck Zamfara and kidnapped the village head, Chief Imam and 52 others in Lingyado village of Maru local government area of the state.
One of the kidnap victims, who escaped being kidnapped along with others, Abdullahi Mohammed told our reporter that the gunmen invaded the village around 8am on Sunday.
He said that the village head, Alhaji Dalhatu Mohammed, the Chief Imam and 52 others, were kidnapped by the gunmen who stormed the village on motorcycles, shooting sporadically.
“When they started shooting,later they went from house to house searching and kidnapped the affected people.
“They didn’t kill anybody and didn’t rustle any animal or steal our food but they have abducted all the important personalities in the village, including our village head and the Chief Imam.
“I narrowly escaped the kidnap. I jumped over a wall when the bandits were about to enter into my house and ran into Bush.
Reacting to the incident, the Spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police command, SP Mohammed Shehu said, “We received the report, but I don’t know the exact number of people kidnapped by bandits in that village.
“We have since sent a team of heavily armed policemen to pursue the bandits in order to rescue the victims,” he said.
