Katsina State has marked a milestone in its efforts to improve electricity supply, as the Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commissioned a new 120 MVA, 132/33 kV transmission substation in Kankia Local Government Area.
Speaking at Friday’s ceremony, Tegbe described the project as a key part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the national grid and expand transmission capacity.
He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to delivering critical power infrastructure so that electricity generated across the country can be transmitted efficiently to homes, businesses and industries.
Radda called the substation a landmark investment in Katsina’s power infrastructure. Equipped with two 60 MVA transformers, the facility has a combined capacity of 120 MVA and is expected to strengthen the state’s transmission network and increase electricity supply to consumers.
He said reliable electricity was essential for economic growth, industrialisation and improved public services. The project would complement Katsina’s expanding renewable energy programme and support sectors including agriculture, agro-processing, commerce, education and healthcare.
Radda thanked President Tinubu for approving the project and commended the Minister of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria for completing it.
He also urged residents of the host community to protect the facility from vandalism, describing it as a strategic national asset for current and future generations.
