ASHENEWS reports that Girls Beyond Reach Foundation, also known as Daddys Girls, has awarded N2 million in educational scholarships to girls residing in Angwan-Shao, Karimo, a slum in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The scholarships aim to provide these deserving candidates with the opportunity to pursue their dreams and overcome the socio-economic challenges that often hinder their progress.
According to the Foundation, the need for these scholarships is significant, citing UNICEF, they noted that out of the over 10 million children in Nigeria who are out of school, 60 percent of them are girls.
The Director of Finance for the Foundation, Mrs. Olamide Afolabi explained that each girl will receive N150,000 per session over a period of four to five years, depending on their course of study.
Afolabi emphasized the Foundation’s dedication to filling the gap in the education of the girl-child.
“For now, the scholarship is being offered to three girls in Karimo, Abuja, due to financial limitations. The Foundation aims to ensure that no student is dropped along the way due to lack of funds”, she noted.
The Director of Operations for the Foundation, Miss Temitope Omogbolagun highlighted the scholarships as part of the Foundation’s commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty through education.
She explained that by investing in these girls, the Foundation is transforming lives and contributing to the progress of society as a whole.
“According to UNICEF, in Nigeria, out of over 10 million children in Nigeria who are out of school, 60 percent of them are girls. This is the gap we are looking forward to bridge.
“Beyond that, we believe that education is the cornerstone of a brighter future. By investing in these girls, we are not only transforming their lives but also contributing to the progress of our society as a whole.”
Omogbolahun also said that the selection process for the scholarships was rigorous, with candidates assessed based on academic merit, leadership potential, and commitment to community development.
“Three young girls, including a physically challenged ambitious young lady, emerged as the chosen beneficiaries. They demonstrated exceptional promise and a clear dedication to overcoming adversity.
“In addition to the scholarships, Girls Beyond Reach Foundation also offers a mentorship program with a robust curriculum that addresses various aspects of life.
“The foundation believes this comprehensive approach is a significant stride towards achieving an inclusive and empowered society”, she said.
Mrs. Tomisin Latinwo, the Director of Mentoring for the Foundation, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to creating lasting impact in the lives of disadvantaged individuals.
She expressed hope that these determined young women, along with others already benefiting from the scholarship and mentorship programs, would serve as beacons of hope for countless others in similar circumstances.
