Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has dragged the Sokoto State Government to court over its alleged failure to release the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into his administration.
Tambuwal, through his counsel, U.O. Sule, SAN, had filed the suit, marked SS/133/2026 in April this year, and assigned to Justice Mohammed Mohammed of the Sokoto State High Court 6.
Joined as defendants are Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Sokoto State, and the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry.
The commission was constituted by the state government to investigate activities, transactions and other matters relating to Tambuwal’s eight-year administration from 2015 to 2023.
It was chaired by retired Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, a former Chief Judge of Gombe State.
Tambuwal is challenging what he described as the refusal or failure of the government and the commission to furnish him with a copy of the report after the conclusion of the inquiry.
He is asking the court to compel the defendants to release the report, arguing that he needs access to its findings and conclusions.
The case brings the dispute over the inquiry report into a legal arena, with the court now set to determine whether Tambuwal should be granted access to the document.
The court has fixed November 9, 2026, for judgment in the matter.
The development adds a fresh legal dimension to the political and financial controversy surrounding the commission’s investigation of the former administration.
