The Chairman of the newly inaugurated Kwara Para-Athletics Association, AbdulKadir Aiyelabegan, has solicited more support from the state government for its athletes to enhance their performance in the quest to win laurels.
Aiyelabegan made the call when he paid a thank-you visit to the Kwara Sports Commission for its support of the association’s recently held Para Athletics competition in Ilorin.
The para-athletics chairman appreciated Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing the enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state as he solicited more support for people with disabilities.
He also thanked the Executive Chairman of the commission, Bola Mogaji, for the support and opportunity to stage the one-day championship.
Aiyelabegan said the championship was just the tip of the iceberg as the association is planning to hold another one before the end of the year.
Responding, Mogaji thanked Aiyelabegan for his magnanimity in staging and sponsoring the championship, adding that it is sponsorship and partnership like what the para-association did that the commission seeks as the government alone cannot do it all.
Mogaji implored other associations to emulate the para association who staged a competition barely weeks after the inauguration of all associations.
He explained that the governor appreciates and cares for people with disabilities, which informed the inclusion of people with disabilities among government-appointed advisers and on the board of the commission.
