ASHENEWS reports that the Kebbi state government has urged the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to broaden its scope in a bid to strengthen national development.
The Kebbi state deputy governor, Umar Abubakar stated this during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch “B” Stream 1 Orientation Course at Permanent Orientation Camp in Dakingari.
“I challenged you to see the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to evolve strategies to strengthen the scheme, make it more sustainable, and broaden its scope of operations to enhance its contributions to national development,” Umar called.
Abubakar said that the NYSC has the invaluable contributions of the NYSC Scheme on national unity, development, peace, and integration.
The deputy governor while assuring the corps members of protection during their service year urged the corps members to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities.
Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Okolo Agatha Banki commended the government’s support to the NYSC in the state.
The state coordinator urged the corps members to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work, and resilience which they imbibed during the orientation course.
She further enjoined the corps members to perform their duties with diligence per the provision of the NYSC act and bye-laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.
“in keeping with objectives of the scheme, you are expected to integrate into your host communities while also appreciating and expecting their cultures,” she stressed.
