The expressway is a major route linking Kano with Kaduna and other parts of the country. It serves thousands of commuters, traders, commercial drivers and transport operators daily.
The completion of the Zaria–Kano section is expected to improve road safety by providing better driving conditions, reducing hazards caused by damaged surfaces and helping prevent avoidable accidents and loss of life.
The project is particularly important given the high volume of passenger and commercial traffic along the corridor, which plays a significant role in moving people and goods across Northern Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu, represented at the ceremony by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, said the project would deliver these benefits.
The improved highway is also expected to boost economic activity by facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce, manufactured goods and other commodities between Kano, Kaduna and neighbouring states.
Kano, a major commercial hub, stands to benefit from better market access, shorter travel times and lower vehicle operating costs, creating more opportunities for traders, farmers and businesses, according to a statement by Sunusi Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Kano.
The statement added that the commissioning underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to developing critical infrastructure that strengthens national connectivity, supports commerce and promotes economic growth.
The Kano State Government urged motorists to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and comply with traffic regulations to ensure the improved road delivers lasting benefits.
