The Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has threatened to publish the names of those who are beneficiaries of lands allocated to them at the controversial Kano polytechnic premises, which structures have been marked for demolition.
Already, all the buildings on the said lands have been marked for demolition, and the perimeter fences of some of the buildings, have already been demolished by the state government task force.
The action by the state government is generating controversy, especially that most of those who had acquired Certificates of Occupancy and building approvals from government.
However, Yusuf, at the African Hall of the Government House in Kano on Sunday, alleged that more than 70% of the plots of land were allocated to the wife of the immediate past governor, Dr. Hafsat Ganduje and their children.
“That place belongs to the masses. Instead of building hostels, lecture theaters, sport complex for the benefit of students, rather they converted the lands for their personal use,” the governor said.
“I can rest assure you that we would make it what it was and for the benefit of the people.
“There are some personalities making noise over the move to demolish the illegal structures at the place, but surprisingly, most of them were part of the beneficiaries of the lands allocation. We would publish all their names for people to understand what is happening,” he added.
The governor said that so many schools’ land were allotted for personal and some individual benefits just like the one with the burning issie presently.
Yusuf added that it is disappointing that as a governor, Ganduje swore to an oath of office and allegiance to protect the rights of the people he was governing, but sadly, he was the one championing conversion of the rights of the people for personal interest.
He noted that while he has also swore to protect the rights of the people as the governor of the state, he would not allow the injustice against the people to go without remediation.
