The Supreme Court of Nigeria is set to appoint eight judges from across five of the six geographic zones, who will fill in vacant positions created by retired justices in the said zones.
Following a notice by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Olukayode Ariwoola on Friday, for blocs in the legal profession and the judiciary to nominate candidates, the President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyau has urged lawyers, through a memo, to apply.
Eight of a total of 21 slots, including North-Central (2), North-West (1), Southeast (2), South-South (1), South-West (2), have become vacant following the retirement of some Justices.
Maikyau said the CJN asked him “to nominate suitably qualified candidates to be recommended for appointment to the Supreme Court of Nigeria”.
According to him, interested lawyers from the regions are to submit their expression of interest to the NBA secretariat in Abuja on or before 21 June.
