The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel, and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Dije Aboki stressed the need for synergy towards enhancing criminal justice system.
The duo made the commitment when Gumel paid familiarization visit to Justice Aboki at the state High Court on Friday.
Gumel, who led his management team on the visit, called for synergy between the judiciary and police to end all forms of criminality, especially the menace of phone snatching.
“The Command is to reinforce the existing synergy and to inform the judges of our commitment in the direction of crime control, investigation in order to eliminate crimes and other social vices that is making good governance difficult,” CP Gumel said.
On assumption of office, Gumel said he noticed that the police command was battling with emerging crimes, especially mobile phone snatching, dealing in illicit drug, which serves as influencers for committing these crimes which prompted.
“This informed the Command, under my watch, to form special crime fighting teams that have been deployed to support the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure that they ruthlessly clampdown on these incidences. Within one month, this has become a thing of the past. This is a promise which we must collectively fulfill.
“I am extremely delighted to see that the situation is now under 90% control while diligent investigation and prosecution of over 400 offenders are ongoing by the police and in various courts. The police could not have gone this far within this period of five weeks without the cooperation of the courts, high commitment by the police and good Samaritans.
“I believe this visit will further reinforce the existing working relationship and ultimately Kano will be the most peaceful State,” CP Gumel said.
He thanked the Chief Judge, High Courts Judges and the entire judiciary staff for giving the police the enabling grounds, especially this high-level interactive session which is quite educative.
In her remark, Justice Aboki stated that she was delighted to receive the CP and his management team.
“It is indeed a delight to have the Commissioner of Police and his entourage on this courtesy visit to discuss on how we can deliver our work efficiently and effectively.
“We know the work you have been doing, especially on mobile phone snatching and I notice that the present government is very passionate in fighting it. I implore the Commissioner of Police to urge all investigation police officers to be professional and thorough.
She added that if the police is committed and diligent in its prosecution of the criminals, they would be flushed out of the streets.
The CJ promised that the judiciary will do everything on its part to ensure speedy and robust justice delivery for the people of Kano state.
