ASHENEWS reports that a socioeconomic and cultural group, the Kebbi Development Forum, has condemned the recent attack on on the INEC National Commissioner representing Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, and a former Vice Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto , Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru in Adamawa state.
This online platform further reports that the Forum, in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Dr. Sa’idu Abubakar, and Abdullahi Sani Mungadi and made available to newsmen on Wednesday, also demanded the Federal government to launch “an independent and full scale investigation into the role played by security agencies (DSS, Police, etc) in this unfortunate incident.”
According to the Forum, the attack on Prof. Zuru, “at the full glare of security operatives, foils speculation that the attack was premeditated and designed to achieve certain ulterior motive,” adding that it “was not only unfortunate, unwarranted and callous but also demonstrates how far politicians and their cohorts in government uniform, are willing to go in order to perpetuate themselves in power.”
Read the statement below:
The attention of Kebbi Development Forum (KDF), a socio-economic and cultural organization, has been drawn to the brutal, dastardly, and inhumane attack and humiliation on Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, INEC National Commissioner, representing Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, and a former Vice Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto on Sunday 16th April 2023 at the City Green Hotel Opposite Matco Hospital, Barrack Road Jimeta, while undertaking a national duty in the company of his colleagues in the Adamawa State Gubernatorial Re-run Election held on 15th April 2023.
The assault on this senior citizen and erudite scholar of repute at the full glare of security operatives, foils speculation that the attack was premeditated and designed to achieve certain ulterior motive, was not only unfortunate, unwarranted and callous but also demonstrates how far politicians and their cohorts in government uniform, are willing to go in order to perpetuate themselves in power.
KDF condemns, in the strongest terms, this act of barbarism and hooliganism that has the potential to send the wrong signal and should not, therefore, be allowed to go unpunished, in the greater interest of service to the nation and Nigeria`s image.
As a reasonable organization therefore, Kebbi Development Forum (KDF) calls on Mr. President to direct the National Security Advisor (NSA) to carry out an independent and full scale investigation into the role played by security agencies (DSS, Police, etc) in this unfortunate incident. The forum equally calls on the leadership of INEC to explore the possibilities of making alternative security arrangements for its officers on national assignments across the country, going forward.
Nonetheless, what happened to Prof. Zuru should not discourage any patriotic Nigerians from rendering their services to the nation.
