The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu has advised the government to construct level crossing railway gates to enhance safety in train operations across the country.

Biu stated this in reaction to the fatal crash involving a moving train and a bus belonging to the Lagos State government at the PWD railway crossing along Agege motor road, Lagos on Thursday.

According to the FRSC,”the crashed Marcopolo bus with registration number 04A-48LA conveyed 85 passengers out of which 2 adult occupants were confirmed dead at the spot while 4 died later at the hospital and the remaining 79 occupants who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rescued and are presently receiving treatment at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, “

Biu, in a statement issued by the Public Education Officer Federal Road Safety Corps Abuja, Bisi Kazeem also advised motorists to desist from undue interference with rail tracks whether or not the rails are been engaged by trains.

Biu also urged traders to desist from the unwholesome practice of displaying wares around or on rail tracks.

Biu, while sympathizing with the victims of the crash assures that the corps will investigate the circumstances leading to the incident.
