Cholera has reportedly killed 30 people of Ekureku community in Abi local government area of Cross River state.
The permanent secretary in the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Iwara Iwara who confirmed the development told Vanguard that a team comprising Red Cross, the state epidemiology unit, and the Ministry of Health had been dispatched to the community for first-hand assessment of the situation.
According to the report, Ekureku community which shares boundary with parts of Ebonyi state, is comprised of 10 villages including Agbara, Ngarabe, Ekureku-be, Akpoha, Akare-for, Anong, Emenekpon, Etegevel, Egboronyi and Emegeh.
According to a source, the cholera was noticed in the community which suffers from shortage of potable water, when some people started having severe diarrhoea and dehydration a few days ago.
