EID-EL-FITR: Peace, panacea for socio-economic development of Nigeria – Tambuwal

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto says the prevalence of peace is the only panacea for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

The governor stated this in his Sallah broadcast to the people of the state, which marked the end of Ramadan fast on Thursday.

Tambuwal reiterated the need for all citizens to think and work positively by eschewing anything that could further throw the state and Nigeria into chaos.

According to him, Ramadan has served as a vehicle for spiritual rejuvenation and self denial.

“It has without doubt beeing a period of self denial and spiritual rejuvenation that brought us more closer to Our Creator, thereby earning His Mercy, forgiveness and  freedom from the hell fire. It is my prayer that Allah in His infinite mercy has accepted our fasting prayers and supplications during this Holy month,” the governor said.

Tambuwal thanked his people for their continuous support and cooperation in running the affairs of our dear state.

“Suffice it to say that it had been challenging to all of us and the world at large as we battle with the Covid-19 pandemic and its concomitant problems that affected the world economy. We remain ever grateful to Allah (SWT) for his innumerable favours and pray that all those who lost their lives have attained the position of martyrs.

“On this day, I urge you, fellow citizens, to keep close to our hearts the spirit of charity, generosity, hospitality and brotherhood that Eid-el-Ftr symbolises. This is especially necessary, particularly, at this trying times that our nation is passing through. Certainly, by upholding the lessons learnt during this month we can sumount the numerous challenges we face as a people.

“We are indeed ensnared by the travails of our economic drawbacks, frightening insecurity and the still persistent Covid 19 Pandemic. As an administration in Sokoto state, we have not rested on our oars in trying to mitigate these challenges by confronting them head on so as to roll back their impacts on the lives of our people.

“Our government has ensured a prudent management of our limited resources and have not failed in meeting our obligations to the people. This is evident in our embarking on projects that are critical to the transformation of our state.

“It is of great concern that our state is sadly not spared from the situation of insecurity that affects the entire country, especially Northern Nigeria. Nonetheless, we have been giving our maximum support to the security agencies; and, in liaison with the federal government, we are leaving no stone unturned to secure the lives and property of the people from the menace of banditry, kidnapping and sundry violence arising therefrom.

“The situation would have been more challenging without the valuable support of the people of the state who stood by us through thick and thin. We are not unmindful of your contribution to the successes we have recorded,” the governor further said.

He commended the Sultan of Sokoto for his guidance and support of the government.

“In the same breadth, much of our accomplishments would have remained unheralded without the fatherly guidance and support for our policies and programs by His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto whose foresight and clarity of vision has been the anchor of our successes so far. No doubt, His Eminence deserves our unconditional gratitude.

Fellow citizens, we need also to continue praying and supporting the authorities in the onerous task of salvaging our beloved nation. It remains pertinent for all of us to join hands in the fight against insurgency, banditry and other criminal activities that have affected all facets of our lives.”

Tambuwal appealed to the people not to take laws into their hands while trying to checkmate the menace of insecurity, warning, “This is not acceptable. On no account should any peace loving citizen take the laws into their hands.”
