Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi has commended the World Assembly of Muslim Youths (WAMY) for providing free medical services, including surgeries, to residents of the state.

Idris made this commendation when he received a WAMY medical team comprising over 30 doctors from different parts of the world in Birnin Kebbi during a courtesy visit on Monday.

The governor described the initiative as a significant humanitarian effort capable of improving the health and wellbeing of residents, especially those who cannot afford specialized medical treatment.
“This is a clear sign that WAMY is doing great charity work for humanity.
I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to WAMY’s leadership and the Nasara Foundation for this gesture, so our people can benefit from it,” Idris said.

He assured the medical team that the state government would continue to create an enabling environment for humanitarian and healthcare interventions.
Idris stated that his administration remains willing to partner with WAMY and other organizations on initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of the people.

“The government of Kebbi and its people are very grateful and appreciate this program.
The government will keep providing the right environment for such initiatives,” he added.

The governor also praised the doctors and medical personnel for offering their expertise, time, and resources to deliver essential healthcare services to residents.
He described their work as a demonstration of compassion and dedication to humanity, noting that WAMY has consistently engaged in humanitarian activities worldwide.

“Our doors are open. Whatever form of partnership you seek, not only for this medical outreach, the government of Kebbi is ready to collaborate with you,” Idris said.

Earlier, WAMY’s Executive Director, Hisham Muhammad, stated that the organization had deployed medical experts to Kebbi for a week-long general surgery outreach, which began on Saturday.

Muhammad explained that about 1,500 patients are expected to benefit from free surgical procedures and other medical services during the campaign.

He said the team is led by Dr. Abdul-Latif Barnawi, a general surgeon, and includes specialists from various medical fields.

Barnawi added that the focus would mainly be on general surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, and pediatric surgery.
He said the team would attend to women’s health cases, perform surgeries, and provide medications and post-operative care.

WAMY plans to expand the scope and number of beneficiaries in future missions to Kebbi, including more medical specialties.

The outreach, organized by WAMY in collaboration with the Nasara Foundation and the Kebbi government, aims to provide free surgical procedures to about 1,500 patients during the week-long event.
