Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, on Thursday, commissioned the 14.5-kilometre Zawaiyya–Unguwar Maidaji–Gwangwan Dikko Road in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The road was constructed by the Sokoto State Government at a cost of about N4.53 billion under Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s 9-Point Smart Innovative Agenda.
Idris laid the foundation for the construction of two other roads in Shagari Local Government Area as part of his one-day official visit to Sokoto State.
The roads are the 7.5-kilometre Kajiji–Sanyinnawal Road and the 13.5-kilometre Mandera–Darin Guru–Jabo Road.Speaking at the event, Nasir Idris expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto for inviting him, saying the gesture had further strengthened the existing cordial relationship between Kebbi and Sokoto states.
The Kebbi State Governor underscored the importance of road infrastructure in improving the socio-economic well-being of the people.
According to him, roads have a direct bearing on the well-being of people in various communities, stressing that their importance cannot be underestimated.
Idris also said rural roads are the backbone of national development because they provide access to schools, healthcare facilities and markets, while enhancing transportation.
The Kebbi governor therefore commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto for investing heavily in road infrastructure across the state, maintaining that such projects significantly improve the living standards of the people.
He acknowledged that most communities in Sokoto and Kebbi states are predominantly agrarian, adding that the projects could not have come at a better time.
While appealing to Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto to sustain the initiative, Idris also urged residents to jealously guard the numerous infrastructure projects being provided across the state.
He said: “We must develop the culture of protecting public infrastructure because they are provided with the resources of the people.”
Also speaking, the host governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, commended Nasir Idris for honouring the invitation within 49 hours.
The Sokoto State Governor described Kebbi and Sokoto as sister states, saying, “We are an indivisible entity.”
Governor Aliyu also acknowledged the sustained support of development partners to the state’s development efforts.
He stated that the road projects would boost access to markets, empower residents and create more socio-economic opportunities for the people of the state.
While pledging to sustain the infrastructure drive, the Governor said several road projects had already been completed and commissioned, while others were at various stages of completion.
The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing purposeful leadership to Nigerians, pledging to continue supporting his people-oriented programmes and policies.
