The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that ongoing economic reforms—including the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange liberalisation, and fiscal restructuring—are designed to deliver long-term benefits for the country.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance on Friday in Lagos while receiving the ‘Image Maker Award 2026.’

Speaking at the event, Idris reiterated the government’s commitment to transparent and responsible communication, describing it as central to effective governance.

“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance, and it must foster confidence, unity, and hope,” he said, adding that it must go beyond informing the public to building trust.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, on Saturday, the minister noted that the recognition comes at a critical period for Nigeria, characterised by bold policy reforms aimed at repositioning the economy for sustainable growth.

He stressed the importance of transparency, regular engagement with citizens, and collaboration with the media in bridging the gap between government actions and public perception.

Idris also highlighted the role of timely and accurate information in addressing national security concerns, noting ongoing coordination between government agencies and media stakeholders to sustain public confidence.

“As we navigate major policy shifts—including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, and fiscal restructuring—our approach has centred on clarity, consistency, and credibility,” he said. “We are committed to communicating government decisions with empathy and responsibility, while emphasising their long-term benefits for all Nigerians.”

He further acknowledged the contributions of media professionals, government officials, and staff of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation in strengthening the country’s communication framework.

Describing the award as a call to greater service, Idris reaffirmed his commitment to upholding “the highest standards of public communication, anchored on truth, transparency, and accountability.”

The event, organised by Vanguard Media Limited, was attended by several prominent Nigerians, including Peter Mbah, Agbu Kefas, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, and Matthew Hassan Kukah, among others.
